Academic Workload and Teaching Framework

  • Academic Year Duration: 13 June 2025 to 30 April 2026

  • NEP 2020 Implementation: This was the second year of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The college adopted the M1–M2 structure, where Political Science was designated as the M2 (Major 2) subject.

  • Total Teaching Load: (Each lecture of one hour.)

    • FYBA: 4 lectures/week

      SYBA: 4 lectures/week

      TYBA: 9 lectures/week

      Total: 17 lectures per week

  • Lecture Timings: Evening sessions at 3:45, 4:45, 5:45, 6:45, 8:00, and 9:00 pm

  • The department continues to cater to the needs of working-class students enrolled in evening programmes.

FYBA – NEP 2020 Pattern (Semesters 1 & 2)

Semester 1:

  • Major Paper: The Constitutional Framework – 4 credits, 4 lectures/week

    • Optional Paper 63 students opted for this paper

    • Evaluation: 60 marks semester-end + 40 marks internal

    • Internal included: quizzes, visits, activity/presentation reports, assignments

Semester 2:

  • Major Paper: Political Process in India – 4 credits

    • Optional Paper 63 students opted for this paper

    • Evaluation as above


SYBA

Semester 3:

  • Public Administration

  • 29 students opted for this paper
  • Evaluation as FY papers (60+40)

Semester 4:

  • Indian Administration


TYBA – Old Pattern (Semesters 5 & 6)

Semester 5:

  • World Politics

  • Western Political Thought

  • Politics of Modern Maharashtra

  • 48  students opted for Political Science

  • 100 marks per paper – Semester end exam conducted by University of Mumbai
  • Paper no. 6 has a project work of 20 marks and semester end exam of 80 marks.

Semester 6:

  • India in World Politics

  • Indian Political Thought

  • Determinants of Politics of Maharashtra

  • 80 marks university exam + 20 marks project

  • Projects based on syllabus themes


Assessment and Examination Performance

  • Regular & ATKT Exams: Conducted as per schedule

  • Results:

    • On an average 80% success rate for all semesters.

Guest Lectures and Educational Visits

Visit to Vidhan Sabha during session on 16th July 2025

Mr. Pradeep Kokare, a past student delivered a guest lecture on “Politics and Literature” on 15th Feb. 2026.

Other Academic Contributions and Roles

  • Election Duty: Prof. Buwa served as Presiding Officer during BMC Elections, in January 2026

  • Prof. Buwa was a member of the syllabus framing sub-committee of the Board of Studies of Political Science, University of Mumbai.
  • He worked as a Chairman, Moderator of 2 Political science papers for University of Mumbai exams and completed online assessment.
  • Prof. Buwa was appointed as an Assistant Branch Secretary of the Borivali and Kharghar Centre of Gokhale Education society for the three year period from 2025-26 to 2027-28


Future Plans (2026-27)

  • NEP 2020 will extend to all 6 semsters (FY to TY BA) from next year

  • New paper under Open Electives will be introduced to SYBCOM students.
  • Total workload will be 14 in case of one division of SYBCOM and 16 in case of two divisions.

Conclusion

The department has successfully implemented NEP 2020 for two years (FY and SY) and maintained academic rigour in all semesters. Through a combination of dynamic internal assessments,  and co-curricular engagements, the Department of Political Science has aimed at building critical citizenship, academic insight, and practical awareness among students. The contribution of past students and collaboration with external institutions added significant value.
